Hong Leong Islamic Bank Brings Ramadan Cheer To Children Of Foster Home
Kuala Lumpur, 17 October 2005
Hong Leong Islamic Bank (HLIB) treated 46 children from Asrama Bakti Penyayang Nur Iman, a home for less fortunate children in Taman Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, to a shopping spree and berbuka puasa feast on 15 October 2005. A week prior this event, HLIB had taken the initiative to provide the children’s home with some essential furniture, electrical items and foodstuff to help ease the home’s operational burden as well as elevate living conditions.
The children accompanied by some staff of HLIB were first taken shopping to purchase school uniforms and school shoes. To get the 46 excited children outfitted took the better part of 2 hours. Later that evening, the tired but happy children were invited to a “berbuka puasa” function hosted by HLIB. Indeed it was heartening to see the children enjoying themselves with the buffet spread. The function ended with HLIB’s Managing Director, En Daud Vicary Abdullah, giving away “Wang Raya” (Hari Raya pocket money) to the children.
According to En. Daud, Hari Raya is a time for giving and sharing. “We certainly hope our contribution to the children and the home will make this Raya more meaningful and joyful for them. At HLIB, we believe in embedding ourselves in the community and our values of building relationship and trust with our customers will always be our guiding principles in doing business,” he said.
“We appreciate the assistance provided by Hong Leong Islamic Bank and the children are very happy to go out with the Bank’s staff. I certainly hope that more corporate companies will follow the leadership of En. Daud and his staff and grow a more caring society,” said Ustazah Sharimah, caretaker of the Home.
Asrama Bakti Penyayang Nur Iman is home to 46 children ranging from 6 – 16 years of age who are orphaned or abandoned and some suffering from autism. These children are housed in a single storey detached house. It is a relief from the original house at Sentul which was dilapidated, and cramped. The current home is in the process of being registered with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat and thus needs to meet the requirements and guidelines set by the authorities.
