KUALA LUMPUR, 6 OCTOBER 2026 - Ahead of the National Budget 2027’s expected focus on youth economic resilience, HLB Islamic (or the “Bank”) has announced the launch of its landmark HLB @ Campus student ambassador initiative with an inaugural cohort featuring 24 student leaders from eight Malaysian universities, aligned with the Bank’s ongoing initiative to elevate financial literacy among young Malaysians.
These student ambassadors will spearhead dynamic financial literacy outreach activities, which include digital outreach, on-ground events, as well as career orientation programs within their institutions. By embedding practical financial management skills into the campus culture, HLB @ Campus aims to help university students build a solid foundation for long-term personal and family financial security.
This initiative addresses an urgent national challenge, with youth bankruptcy accounting for 15% of all insolvency cases over the past five years. HLB @ Campus looks to address this issue by providing university students with the tools, resources, and peer network needed to master smart money habits today, transforming them into advocates who will elevate financial literacy for their entire generation.
Dafinah Ahmed Hilmi, CEO of HLB Islamic, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the Bank’s Hayat @ HLB Islamic framework, which views foundational literacy as the launchpad for a lifetime of wealth creation.
"Sustainable wealth creation is a deliberate, lifelong journey that must begin on day one, “dari bangku sekolah lagi”. Through HLB @ Campus, we are actively empowering this new generation to take early ownership of their financial destinies. Guided by Hayat @ HLB Islamic, where our products and services are anchored on the five pillars of Shariah-compliant wealth stewardship, we believe that true, long-term financial growth starts the moment a young person opens their first account and begins managing their money intentionally. By instilling sound financial discipline from these formative years, we are enabling our youth to not only secure their own economic well-being, but also to build, preserve, and pass on lasting wealth for generations to come."
At the official launch ceremony held at Menara Hong Leong, the newly appointed student ambassadors kicked off their tenure by participating in specialized capability development sessions. These workshops covered financial literacy sessions on scam awareness and Shariah banking, digital marketing execution, professional career pathways, and a preview of their upcoming business case capstone project, which will be pitched directly to senior bank leadership. Grounded in Value-Based Intermediation (“VBI”), HLB @ Campus underscores the Bank’s dedicated drive to champion community financial literacy, support youth development, and cultivate an ethically conscious, financially savvy generation across Malaysia.
HLB @ Campus builds on the Bank’s long-standing commitment to community empowerment, leveraging established flagship outreach platforms including the HLB DuitSmart and Celik Muamalat workshop series. Through these platforms, the Bank has cumulatively reached over 50,000 participants nationwide, delivering essential financial literacy, Islamic banking education, and scam awareness guidance to schools, universities, corporate partners, and local communities.
